International Internship

Day 7: 11- 10-2019

Today was my last day of the internship, I was feeling a bit upset. I had so much fun this week, if I could I would have stayed another week. Today I had to come a bit later, because Henry was giving his presentation. I would have liked to join the meeting, but Daphne said I would have been a bit boring for me. That is why I took one bus later, 9.07 am. At 10.00 o’clock I arrived I waited in the canteen for 5 minutes, and then I got a message that Daphne was able to open the doors for me. I asked if the presentation was interesting or not, surprisingly she said that Henry had done a very good job. I settled down, but I couldn’t work on my project because some minutes later Daphne asked if I was ready to do some experiments. Today was microscope day. I had the plates ready, because we had made them during this week. I got some information from Daphne what would happen if we added several dice to them. If the bacteria was pink under the microscope it was gram negative and had two membranes, if it was purple it was positive and only one membrane. So we added four different dice to them each time cleaned them and left it for 1 min each. When we had done that we went upstairs to the microscope and looked at them, to see the results. We tried to take photos of the results which was very stressful, because it was hard and to find the good angle. We prepared the plates with everything I had chosen, we added the dice and prepared those as well. We went up stairs again and looked at them, Grant had moles. We looked at all the plates I had chosen to look at. We went back to the lab and showed Grant his dirty fingers. He found it funny. We had lunch I ate my two sandwiches, banana and tangerine and some chocolate milk as well. We had a discussing about how to pronounce certain words. For example, Iraq and Arabic. It was quite funny. We also talked about TV shows for kids we grew up it. They found Basie and Adrian too scary for kids. We had quite a long lunch, but it was cosy and interesting. After lunch we prepared some the DNA, because Daphne was going to prepare a gel. She prepared the gel I watched, it was radioactive so it could be dangerous. In the meantime when the gel was becoming hard we had Fika. James had brought cake, so we ate cake had some chocolate milk and had conversations. Around 15.30 we continued the gel, we poured the droplets in it we had prepared before, in this way you could see where the DNA was. We looked at the gel under a machine and printed the photo. Last thing we did was building a snowman. We got ice from the minus 80 degrees freezer. We build a snowman of it and added decoration. The snow was really sticky so it helped with building it. That was it, I had finished my internship. I said goodbye to everyone, Grant, Jose,Felix, Henry, James and Daphne. Jose said I could come to Mexico to his lab and Grant said I could come to Canada, maybe one day I will! I was quite said to leave because I had so much fun this week, I learned a lot made new colleagues. I left to the tunnelbana it was crowded again, went to my next train, I thought I was in the wrong train so I got out of it, but it was the right one. So I had to wait four more minutes. I ate some of my Turkish fruits and twix while I had to wait 10 minutes for the bus, the bus was quite crowded I sat in front a whole new angle for me. I walked the last part home as always, Babou was home as well, I ate dinner, took a shower. My mom called that her flight was cancelled, instead of 21.20 the fight left 00.35. I felt sorry for Yara, my sister she had to be up so late. I went to sleep at 2.30 am. I heard my uncle and grandfather leave I wanted to join as well, but I was too tired. I don’t know the time, but my uncle woke me up to change beds, I said hi to my mom and sister and later went to sleep again, everyone woke up so early I was really tired!
