Day 4: 8-10-2019

The second day in the laboratorium! I woke up around the same time as the previous days had some breakfast with my uncle only, my cousins aren’t going to be here anymore : (. My bus would leave at 8.30 am. so at 8.15 I left home and went to the bus station. However, I was standing on the wrong side of the street, so my bus arrived at the other side, but I was too late for that. I took the next bus it would go somewhere else, but the end destination was the same. When I arrived at the trains above ground, I wasn’t able to go through the doors, so I went back to the bus stations and took the same bus back. I waited there on the right bus and took that to the metro. Luckily, I was able to find both my trains with no problems. In the meantime, one ride takes a lot longer than the other one, therefore I was watching Full House on one of the train rides. I arrived around 9.45, I managed to get out of the train station, however a Spanish girl from the same lab recognized me, which was real fun, because I didn’t see her. We walked together to the lab, she took a different way, I was seeing new things on my way. When we arrived Daphne was surprised to see me, since I said I would text her when I arrived at the Department. The department has a lock, and everyone has a card to open the door, since I don’t have one I can’t get in there by myself. I settled done on my one spot. Only ten minutes later, Daphne picked me up and  we started doing experiments. We had made food for the bacteria yesterday, today we would give the food to them and then we would be able to get the DNA, in steps of course. We added many liquids and centrifuged the solution lots of times. In this way we filtered the DNA and got rid of the waste. Waste we put into a special waste bottle which stank enormously. Finally, after three to five times centrifuging the solution we got the DNA. We put those in tubes and brought them to the mailbox. All the samples were being send to a company in Germany, they would analyse the samples and give us the information back if it was the right and convenient DNA we wanted. We were done with this experiment. Yesterday we made the food and put those in tubes. We had around 10 tubes who turned cloudy and those were the ones we were going to use. We used some liquids and later spread everything out with plastic balls so the colonies would be seperated. We had also made other samples and those we would be using for the bacterias of my choice. I had around 12 samples, I used my watch, phone, fingers, door handle, microwave, coffee machine, and the funniest of all Grant’s cough and his fingers! Grant is a guy from Canada who works here too. It was too funny to watch Grant cough in those samples. We put all the samples in the 37 degrees oven so the bacterias would do their job. Tomorrow or Thursday we would see results. We had also done and experiment on yakult the yoghurt drink. We had samples and the fruit, but we some yoghurt in the first sample and then we dillused them. We took some out of the first and put it in the second, from the second to the third etc. Eventually we had done them all and used the plastic balls again to spread everything equally. This samples we put into the oven as well so we had results by tomorrow. Oww I forgot, we had lunch as well. Lunch was really cosy. I brought my sandwiches, but the people there having lunch were kind. Henry from Ghana was too funny. We were talking about food and he started explaining why everyone should have a rice cooker, it was too funny he explained everything in great detail from each rice brand! There were conversations about allergies and how they managed to work with it in previous jobs. They explained that each week there was a presentation and the person giving the presentation would bring Fikka, that is lunch. Henry was like someone can take over his place and he would only bring the Fikka!! The people are really nice, I enjoyed my lunch a lot. Today I ended a bit late around 17.00 pm. I went to the tunnelbana and found the train. However, it was the wrong one, during the train I realized I was in the wrong train. I got out of the train at the next stop and looked only were to go to. The only way was via the train above the ground, but in the morning I didn’t manage to get through the doors, but this was the only way. I went to penneltag and tried getting through the doors and so I did. It was kind of weird, since this morning I couldn’t manage to get through it. I almost took the wrong train again, but it was an almost. Last minute I found out it was the wrong one again. I took the right train this time. I went through Spänga, nearby my grandmother’s house. I left the train station the same place where I couldn’t get through the doors. Took the bus home and walked the last part. It was already quite late, even though I left the Department later, but it had to do with the fact I took a train to early. When I came home I changed, and later prepared my pizza. I had to make a pizza myself. I was home alone again, my uncle would pick my grandfather from the airport immediately after work, so I couldn’t join him. I went to sleep already because I knew they would come home late. However, something happened in the middle of the night. I got a bleeding nose. I was quite a heavy one. There was blood everywhere, I went to my uncle unfortunately I had to wake him up, because I didn’t know what to do there was a lot of blood. Eventually, I laid down and the blood stopped flowing, however the blood did come in my mouth and later in my stomach. Which made me feel a bit sick. But I fell asleep and that was real nice after the disaster.
